Vintage Silver Tuareg ‘Tellit’ Moon Ring , Niger

£130.00

A large vintage silver tellit moon ring, worn by the Tuareg people of Niger at festivals and celebrations. The head of the ring is a sealed container that is finely engraved with tribal patterns, at the centre of which is a six-pointed star. Inside the container is something that makes a pleasant rattling sound with movement, likely to be small stones or grains. At festivals the rings are worn to keep rhythm when dancing, clapping and drumming. They also offer perceived protection from negative forces. Lovely old tribal ring with patina. Wear commensurate with age.
