Rare Antique Kitab Amulet Pendant, South Morocco - Large
A very unusual antique kitab amulet pendant made approximately 100 years ago, likely to be from Guelmim (Goulimine), South Morocco, and made by one of the semi-nomadic groups with an Arab/Berber mixed heritage.
This large and heavy kitab is made of strong metal, possibly steel, and is beautifully decorated with finely etched patterns. The central design is floral, suggesting influence from North Morocco, the outer patterns are linear, more indicative of the south. The reverse is inscribed with the signature of the maker - "بيد الطاهر" or made by "Ettahar". This kitab has a beautiful worn patina and is a rare find.
